How to reduce the consumption of RAM (RAM) Steam

How to reduce the consumption of RAM (RAM) Steam
Many of us use the Steam client regularly: most of us use it for games, but some of us, like me, use it for software. This is understandable, because Steam is probably the most popular platform for selling downloadable SOFTWARE on a PC. Moreover, the client includes a whole combine of additional functionality, such as the ability to chat, call friends, sell knocked-out items on the marketplace, and much more.

However, there is an extremely serious problem faced by users with a small amount of RAM: Steam, even when loaded into the tray and just "hanging in the background" can eat up to a Gigabyte of RAM! This is not so serious if Your volume is 16 or even more gigabytes. But it is very critical for gaming machines with 8GB of RAM or portable laptops with a pathetic 4 or even 2GB of memory.

What should I do

There is a solution that is extremely simple and effective. You can reduce the memory consumption to a useless 100, and in some cases even 50 MB. This is done by activating the minimalistic browser mode. You lose some of the features of the computer and the store, but you don't lose the most important features in working with apps. I'll tell you more below.

Getting down to business

  1. Open the folder with the Steam client. It's usually something like: "C:Program Files (x86)Steam"and find the file "steam.exe" - this is the client's main executable file.
  2. Right-click on it and create a shortcut. Usually Windows immediately suggests putting it on the desktop.
  3. Now click RMB on the shortcut and go to the tab - "Label".
  4. In the line "Object"add the following parameter:"- no-browser +open steam:/ / open/minigameslist". After quotation marks, separated by a space.
  5. Make sure that everything is done correctly (see the screenshot) and save the changes. Done!

What consequences

The stripped-down version of Steam will only launch using this shortcut. You can still use the full version by running the client from another location. But the modified version will be much easier and with limited functionality.

What the stripped down version doesn't have

  1. You will not be able to use the store, but you can still activate games using a key.
  2. There is no trading platform.
  3. You can't view player profiles.
  4. You can't delete apps.

What the stripped-down version has

  1. Start and installation of games.
  2. Ability to communicate with friends.
  3. To view screenshots.
  4. View inventory and some other features.

How do I get it back

The beauty of it is that you don't have to do much. Just close Steam and run the full version. If necessary, close and run the stripped-down version again. Or delete it altogether if you don't think you'll be using it anymore.
